SOZOPOL – a small ancient town situated 30 km south of Burgas on the southern Bulgarian Black Sea Coast. Nowadays, the town is mostly a seaside resort. The popular art and movie festival Apolonia is held annually at the beginning of September and bears one of the ancient names of this town.
SOZOPOL – one of the most ancient towns on the Bulgarian Thracian Coast. The first settlements dated back from the Bronze Age. The excavations in the area of the port reveal remains of ancient homes, pottery, stone and bone tools from this age. The numerous anchors found in the bay around the town from the first and second millennium before Christ come as evidence for the active navigation existing in these areas from ancient times.
The most active time of the year, of course, is the high season – the summer months from May till October when the town is visited by tourists from all over the world to enjoy the nice weather, beautiful beaches, rich history and culture, tasty cuisine representing a mix of different styles (Bulgarian, Greek, Turkish) and the general atmosphere of this colorful resort.
The growing popularity of the town is the reason to call it “Saint-Tropez” of Bulgaria.
